The 2024 Wakkerstroom Art, Craft + Jazz Fair invites you to enjoy a creative weekend with us in Wakkerstroom. This year’s highlights include:

 

VIAN ROOS: Festival Artist 2024Vian Roos is a multimedia and internationally recognised artist specialising in graphic design, photography and art. He grew up in the small town of Bethlehem and currently resides in Pretoria. He recently exhibited his work in the UK.

 

He will exhibit his photographic art collection, The Glimpse Series, at IJUBA ART STUDIO during the Fair. He finds his inspiration in the everyday stories of South Africa's people and captures captivating landscapes and the simple yet profound activities of individuals from underrepresented communities; all in seamless visual narratives.

 

CHRISTIAAN SNYMAN: Festival Musician and Potter 2024Christiaan Snyman is a well-known South African bass baritone who spent most of his career in Germany.

 

He will delight our Wakkerstroom Art, Craft + Jazz Fair visitors with well-known Italian Opera music and popular music from the movies at the Retro Italian Dinner and Song event on Saturday evening, 21 September.

 

Multi-talented Christiaan will also present a Pottery Masterclass on the wheel and do a pottery demonstration for beginners at the Restory Retreat Centre at Tafelkop Studios on the Wakkerstroom–Piet Retief road.

 

PAUL SLABOLEPSZY: Masterclass in Storytelling 2024A rare opportunity to attend an in-depth Masterclass on the Basics of Storytelling for books, stage, TV and film by actor, playwright, screenwriter and director Paul Slabolepszy, on Sunday evening, 22 September.

 

Born in Bolton, England, Paul emigrated to South Africa with his parents as a child. He matriculated at Brothers of Charity College in Pietersburg (Polokwane) and graduated with a B.A. (Drama) from the University of Cape Town. He is a founder member of The Space in Cape Town and the Market Theatre in Johannesburg. As an actor, Paul has appeared in well over 100 stage and TV plays, as well as 25 feature films.

 

In 1983, Paul received the Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year Award and in2023 a Naledi Lifetime Achievement Award.

 

WORKSHOPS 2024Various Art and Craft workshops will be presented from 20 to 24 September by well-known and popular artists and crafters. Beginners are welcome at all activities:

 

Flip Hatting: Drawing in Soft Pastels

Corina Lemmer: Watercolour Painting and Drawing

Elaine Marx: Oil Painting

Biani Grune: Leatherwork

Letitia Ford: Knitting and Crocheting – skills and activities

Matilda Angus: Pottery

Vian Roos: Photography as Art medium

 

There will also be art activities for children, drumming and marimba workshops, a coffee-tasting competition, a boerbal tournament, market stalls and a visit to Woolah, an art studio in eSizamaleni. See you there!
